Ada berbagai macam polietilen berdasarkan beda massa jenis dan banyaknya cabang. Berbagai macam polietilen yaitu:

1.      Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE)

2.      Ultra low molecular weight polyethylene (ULMWPE or PE-WAX)

3.      High molecular weight polyethylene (HMWPE)

4.      High density polyethylene (HDPE)

5.      High density cross-linked polyethylene (HDXLPE)

6.      Cross-linked polyethylene (PEX or XLPE)

7.      Medium density polyethylene (MDPE)

8.      Linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE)

9.      Low density polyethylene (LDPE)

10.  Very low density polyethylene (VLDPE)

Polietilen yang terpenting adalah HDPE, LDPE, dan LLDPE.
